“Why You Waste Money?!!!!” Oh Mother…

Mother’s Day was a few Sundays ago, right?  Did y’all do anything fun or did you tear your hair out (like me :P) trying to provide the perfect festivities to show appreciation to your mothers?  I suppose we all have to thank our mothers for popping us out or even choosing to step in and raise us no matter how crazy they are :)

For me, my mom has four sisters so it’s really been like an entire Mom Clan keeping me in check.  I’m going to let that sink in for you just a little bit longer.  Yes, I said, “MOM…CLAN…”  As in an entire clan of crazy, overbearing, tiny mothers…  When I was younger, there wasn’t just one upset phone call or lecture…  It was usually multiples of five, so to say it was intense would be severe understatement :P

Not sure how it is for most people, but in my family, Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate everyone who raised me.  A time to thank all those who stepped in and were there for me while I was growing up, no matter HOW intense those moments got, like when I would get grilled by five, angry, little, Asian moms for example.  No seriously, for those of you who can relate, JUST IMAGINE THAT.  Terrifying, ain’t it? ;)

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the standard Asian mother, here’s a lovely comic strip that I feel REALLY relates to most of us with insane parental units :P (courtesy of Lela Lee from angrylittlegirls.com).

Never pick out your mother's flaw...

Yup.

They'll take a mile

Double yup.

This is nuts.

Totally.

You ugly

The harsh truth… ;)

Why you waste money?!!!!

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t!

Seriously though, that last comic strip is my favorite because I’ve definitely experienced that conflict from within of happiness because my mom or aunts clearly like my gifts but also guilt because I’m being chided for spending money… D:

Why you waste money?!!!” brings back so many flashbacks… :P

All jokes aside and like I said before, despite all the insanity growing up, I still love those crazies.  They are a huge part of my life and played such a big role in raising me.  I definitely deviated from what they’re familiar with in many aspects to become another-level-of-intense, different-kind-of-crazy, Batman-lovin’ kick ass I am today but the foundations and morals they laid for me will always ring true :)

This year I wanted to show a lot of appreciation by setting up an entire Mother’s Day lunch.  There was soooo much food which everyone loved, thankfully.  We had BBQ chicken, steak, asparagus, zucchini from the garden, Bloomin’ Onion, etc.  Everything was homemade and oh so good.  Though, I definitely want to spotlight the dessert because I did a full-fledged Cookie Bar and it was soooooooooo awesome!! :D  I had a blast figuring out the details and setting up the bar the day of.

Here’s a sneak peek photo!!
