Top 3 Travel NON-Regrets (#1 is nakedness)

I’m like The Boy Who Cried Wolf now, aren’t I? Well, actually I’m not since I’m naked in the following pictures!

Underneath my clothes… ;) (Anyone else hear Shakira’s song when you read that punchline? …No? :()

So y’all read about my Top 3 Travel Regrets (#1 is not getting naked enough) post that came out on Sunday, right?! If not, here it is, y’all! Nakedness was highly discussed in the comments so have fun reading through those too :P

Now to be honest with everyone, I try not to have regrets in my life, EVER. So even though my last post had “regrets” in the title, I like to think of them as learning experiences. I like to turn shit around. TURN THAT FROWN UPSIDE DOWN, Y’ALL!!!

That’s why I wanted to talk about my Top 3 Travel NON-Regrets. Some might get angry in certain situations or frustrated that things didn’t turn out the way they had planned, but I try to make something amazing from everything shitty. Just because, well, what the hell else can I do? Sit there and cry? Fuuuuuuuck no. Remember, I don’t cry, I make cupcakes. And since there usually isn’t a nice mixer and an oven for me to do this while I travel, I just make that situation AH-MAZINGGG! :D

Travel Non-Regrets

1. My iPhone 4S was stolen [Location: Madrid, Spain]

You think this would devastate most people. And to be honest, it shook me to my very core. I thought it couldn’t happen to me. In fact, the week before, my friend almost got her purse stolen in Paris but I brushed it off as a freak occurrence. Getting pickpocketed in the subway going from the airport to our hotel really humbled me. My phone was in my pocket and it was zipped up so I figured I was good but nope.

I had to assure my friends I was okay but I also had to warn them that I was going to take that night to mourn the loss of my phone. This meant we still had delicious tapas as our dinner; I just didn’t make jokes or say much at all really. And the next day, I was fine. Really I was.

In a weird way, it was one less thing for me to have to worry about and though I was sad that I lost all of my pictures on my phone, I didn’t let that stop my exploring of Madrid, Spain one bit. It did help that my friend, Mike, had his phone so he could map out where we were going. Losing my iPhone was a sobering experience but it freed me in some strange way to just enjoy the magic in front of me instead of trying to capture everything to look at later. Remember kids, when traveling in other countries, chain that shit to yourself.

2. My flight didn’t leave until 3pm (which meant I landed in LAX sometime around midnight) [Location: North Bay, Canada]

Most people would complain about a late flight and having to mill around an unknown city. But hell, I set out to make North Bay known to me and I had a blast. I went snowmobiling for the first time in my life!

And ate some pretty good food! Here’s a vanilla latte and an Oreo dessert at Twiggs :)

And some rotisserie chicken with poutine (YUM! :)) from Swiss Chalet!

But the best thing was when I made a snow angel, also my first time! :D

I forced a coworker to take a picture of me :P Muahahahaha!!

3. I ate by myself for 3 days straight [Location: Palm Springs, CA]

Most would lament about being alone and feeling awkward. If there’s good food, I really don’t mind. I decided to take a solo trip to Palm Springs. I wanted to unwind and just have time to myself since at the time, so many people were demanding my time that I felt suffocated.

For most of the trip, my phone was off and I read outside, stopping to take a dip in the pool whenever it got too hot. The food was amazing and I had lots of fun meeting new people while learning about their lives or joking about random things. I got asked out on a date whilst dining by myself. That was awkward.

I ended up not going because I was not interested in 5 minutes of some random BOW-CHICKA-WOW-WOW action. Instead, I passed out on my bed after one too many cocktails and woke up at 3am to finish reading my book. Needless to say, while I enjoy traveling with different people to different places, it was definitely nice to have some good ‘ole me time :)

What are YOUR NON-regrets?!

Now that I’m done babbling, what are YOUR top 3 travel NON-regrets? Hell, how about we extend this non-regret pondering to anything! What horrible shitty occurrences have you turned upside down into something fantastic for you or for others? Don’t have any? Then just make something up in the comments, we can play a little game where I guess what’s real and what’s not real!! DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT <– as David Harding ‘R’ me would say… :P

I know I’ve been taunting you with that Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Brownie recipe, huh? I’m such a fucking tease. Lo siento. I PROMISE that it’ll be part of Thursday’s post :) Have a fantastic day!!

Until next time, y’all!! :P

I actually don’t get to travel much. Kids get in the way of trying to spend money in traveling…

Well shit, that sucks. Remind me not to have kids… I’m half kidding.

You can’t event save up a little to do a solo trip (if you’re into that kinda thing) and go fishing or something somewhere for a day? I went fishing in the Russian River in Alaska one day and it was super fun!! :)

I wouldn’t want to do anything like that without them. Plus I don’t like fishing.

Aww that’s sweet of you. Hmm ok. Maybe a quiet picnic day filled with reading and games at a park an hour away. Something that’s different and new but also will be exciting to explore. Naps can be had and it’ll be like a little mini vacation :)

Thanks, but there’s really no time to relax when there’s children involved. Especially young ones.

I love my children. You have no reason to be scared, but it is a complete lifestyle change. You can’t put you first any more.

From reading your posts, I know how much you love your children and I really respect that. I wish there were more parents out there that fought to be with their kids and did as much as you do for them.

But I do also know that I’m still very far from having children of my own so it still scares me a little bit.

There’s really no reason to be. I was a little nervous at first, but they have classes you can take and the nurses at the hospital can show you how to do anything you need to know how to do. The rest of it is really just common sense.

The big change is your priorities. They come first and you come second. They need constant supervision. If you want to go out and have a good time, you have to find somebody you trust to care for them. Sometimes it’s very stressful, but it’s also very rewarding to watch them grow and become little versions of you.

I’m sure when the day comes that you’ll do great. And then you’ll think back to when you were scared and wonder why the hell you feared it at all.

I hope I’ll be able to do great in their eyes. It’s just that the idea of having someone or several someones be solely dependent on me scares the crap out of me. I would never want to fail them.

Nice! Love this–I totally agree, it’s always good to see the best in a situation and try to turn it around! I’m glad you had fun in the show! I am finally starting to miss snow now that I moved away from it and haven’t seen it in a year! Glad you turned the phone situation into a good thing–that would have been so hard!
