Top 3 Travel Regrets (#1 is not getting naked enough)

Just kidding.

Man, I can’t believe you guys fell for that… Now I know who’s REALLY dirty-minded!! ;)

I’m currently sitting in a cold ass room waiting for an oil change, something that the Honda Dealership was unable to easily do for me on Friday morning without demanding the big $$$.  After waiting 3+ hours, they (Honda) came out to tell me they were JUST starting my oil change and couldn’t pop the hood.  Long story short they wanted $112 to look at it.  Not fix it or anything, just to look at it.  I said, “Fuck it” and went to my friend’s shop.   Voilà, right in front of my eyes, he popped that motherf’ing hood.  Goddamn liars at Honda.  Thank you, Larry :)

Since I have some time, I’m going to finally hit up my Top 3 Travel Regrets passed along to me by Wander the Map (Check out her top 3 HERE!).  Wander the Map is an awesome blog as she has great posts and pictures revolving around her constant travels and it makes for great leisure reading.  And don’t worry, the coveted Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Truffle Brownies recipe will show itself sometime next week…  You won’t want to miss it! :)

Vyvacious’ Top 3 Travel Regrets

1.  Not buying my first surfing pictures [Location:  Waikiki Beach, HI]

On a very exciting trip to Hawaii, I decided to learn how to surf.  Now as I was going solo, I had free rein to do whatever I wanted so I also added parasailing, banana boating, and bumper tubing to the bunch.  Holy hell did I have a blast!!  Needless to say, my smile was EXTRA big that day in all my pictures  :D

It was my first time surfing ever and I was nervous as hell so I was surprised as shit to stand up and surf on my very first attempt!  I loved that feeling and joy emanating from every fiber of my being.  The pictures turned out awesome!  Since there was a group of girls that I ended up getting paired up with, one of them promised to email me my surfing pictures since she bought the CD of the whole lot of us.  I thought I was saving myself $40.  Turns out I just missed out what were some of the best pictures of my life (so far).  It still saddens me to this day but that just means I have to go back and take some more super awesome surfing pictures soon, right?! :D

Please enjoy these awesome pictures of me banana boating and bumper tubing :P

Even though I went by myself, there were two other guys who were in my group and they were hilarious!  Everything seems calm now…

And then…

They started falling off…  I managed to hang on because I was lucky enough to be in the middle.

That doesn’t mean I didn’t get soaked though!! :P  Now on to bumper tubing which was solo all the way, thank goodness, because that would have been super awkward being that close to other random people.  They told me they once fit 6 people on the bumper tube…how in the hell?!

Vyvacious || Inter-tubing in Hawaii

Just me…not knowing what the hell I got myself into…

Slipping and sliding everywhere.  The next picture is still my favorite though.

HA!

2.  Not sleeping enough before my trips [Location:  Everywhere]

I think this is pretty self-explanatory but it’s actually a huge deal for me.  I rarely sleep before a flight.  I just do laundry and pack.  Even when I really push myself to pack anytime earlier than 3am the morning of my flight, I still can’t sleep.  I get antsy for some reason.  This results in me always feeling like shit when I actually get to my final destination.  I don’t feel like it’s hindered me in any way because I still push through it.  I just feel like it holds me back from the BEST experience I could have.

I’m a big believer in the best of the best.  That may seem like I’m a spoiled brat but hear me out.  I expect the best from my own work and my own actions because I want the very best life.  I always want to make the most of every situation and see the beauty in everything.  This means that my lack of sleep sometimes might leave me in a hazed state so I can’t truly enjoy that beautiful sunrise because I’m snoring away in my bed.  At least not sleeping the night before travel usually means I pass out on the flight over which is always nice but never as good as a real bed.

3.  Not stuffing my face with 10x my body weight worth of pastries [Location:  Paris, France]

Good god.  Their pastries and desserts in general are heavenly.  I strive every freaking day to make my stuff half as good as theirs!  Paris was the first place I enjoyed baguettes.  In the states, I consider baguettes equivalent to hard, long pieces of turd.  Sounds disgusting?  That’s because to me, it really is.  In Paris, it has just the right amount of crunch on the outside and then is super hot and fluffy inside. The most amazing mozzarella cheese, tomato, and olive baguette sandwich is picture below. MMM.

Vyvacious || Paris baguette sandwich

Never have I eaten so many baguettes in my life. Feel free to further explore my love of Paris baguettes in my 1st Official Day in Paris! :) post.  And even though I probably ate 3-4 desserts A DAY (I know, I know…DESSERT OVERLOAD!!), it still wasn’t enough.  I still wish I bought a million more and taken it on my train ride to Lyon, France.  I want to go back just to eat all their delicious food.  I think a trip to Paris is in my near future, anyone wanna join me?! :D

What are YOUR Top 3?!

Now that y’all know my Top 3 Travel Regrets, I’m curious to know yours!  Is there anything you wish you had done or hadn’t done while traveling?  I wanna hear about it, yo! :P

And stay tuned because my next post on Tuesday will be my Top 3 Travel NON-Regrets, which basically is when I took a situation that most would regret and I turned it around so that it’s actually a blessing or an interesting experience. There are some funny stories, no doubt ;)

Until next time, y’all! :P

  1. I like your tags “BAKE ME A PIE!”

I added the exclamation point as I assumed you’d be yelling it

Like your #3: I always regret that I don’t eat enough. No matter how much I eat, there are always more things I wish I could try (especially now that I am no longer a vegetarian). Waaay more things. Allll of the things.

I usually eat a bunch so it’s never a problem for me. It’s just that we were so gorged out on food that it was so hard for me to keep up with all the desserts especially when there was a patisserie on every damn corner!

Interesting. If you don’t mind me asking, why aren’t you vegetarian anymore? Just curious. I always try to make sure I map out at least some places I HAVE to eat at so that I at least have one or two good food experiences to hang on to :P

I don’t mind you asking but it is a long story, so I will spare you an explanation in this forum. :) I still eat veg 85% of the time, but listen to my body’s needs better than I did before. No regrets.

That’s great! I have a friend who turned vegan for health reasons and another who has adapted a GF diet to help with his stomach issues. I myself have an interesting diet at times due to my food allergies. Glad you’re listening to your body’s needs; it’s important! :)

It is extremely important to listen to your body’s needs. Being veg (and sometimes vegan) for a decade also turned me into a really adventurous eater. My eating life is way more interesting now.

Ooh sometimes I wish I could be super adventurous and tell the chef to bring me whatever! Sadly, as of two plus years ago, my food allergies are so varied that I have to be very specific during tasting menus which makes it not so much fun anymore… :(

I can’t sleep the night before I go on a trip either. It is such a pain. Agree about baguettes in France. The best!!

It really is! Especially if my flight is so short that I get only a few hours of restless sleep instead of a full night in my comfy, warm bed!

Gosh I know! I crave them!!

I’m definitely with you about the eating while on vacation, Vyv. One of my very favorite things to do is enjoy the cuisine where ever I’m traveling. And man, that sandwich looks awesome. I loved the food when I went to France several years ago. I was in Brittany – the home of crepes. Could NOT get enough of them!

top 3 travel regrets – not visiting amsterdam while i was living in europe, not taking enough pictures, and never looking at the pix again when i do take them. sigh. other than that, i love travel and don’t regret a thing about it. and those godermned tubing pix are hilarious. xo, sm

Oh man! I hate when I don’t get a chance to visit somewhere super awesome! Why were you living in Europe? That sounds so great!

I think the last two travel regrets are huge for people. While I do take lots of pictures, I also like to revel in the moment as it’s unfolding instead of trying to capture everything with my camera because sometimes I feel like I miss that magical factor of just being there.

That’s why I love having this blog, so I post up my pictures and reminisce about a super fun trip! :)

      Thanks, SM!

Oh dear. So…three regrets that are one in the same. Do you want to travel? Some people just don’t enjoy it. Or are you hindered because of your current life situation and $$$?

      • gonz says:

It would be the current life/financial situation. I have places I want to go such as the UK, Wales, Ireland, Paris, other places. Maybe it’s jumping out of comfort zones but I have the feeling that if I wait until I have enough money that I’ll never make it.

If I could add a 1a, it would be not getting naked enough, too. ;)

Honestly, how and when you travel boils down to your own personality. I couldn’t travel right out of school because I had bills and loans to pay off immediately. But a few years later, getting to go to France and Spain on my own dime was much nicer because I could do everything I wanted to do which really comes down to…I had no limit to my spending budget. Versus had I gone straight out of college, I would have just been eating baguettes and random things from the grocery stores instead of eating at nice restaurants. Some prefer to eat out and some like immersing themselves in the everyday culture. I like both.

It takes a conscious effort to save that’s for sure. So if you’re struggling now just wait until you feel a little more comfortable financially and then save a little every month. It’s doable but you have to be realistic with how much everything is going to cost.

Sorry if I talked your ear (eyes?) off, I tend to do that…

Haha!! Then go to Ibiza and wander the nude-friendly beaches freely, my friend! :P

God, I need to get out more. Aside from everywhere on the east coast, I’ve only been to Canada. Canada was pretty awesome, but France sounds much better. I love baguettes, but I’m sure nothing can compare to a true French baguette. MMMMMMMM.

Ooh the east coast! I’ve only been to NY and Florida really. I don’t count DC because I went in 8th grade. Haha.

Oh man, those banana boat pics are a blast!! Lol!! Yeah, totally know what you’re talking about with the Parisian pastries and baguettes. I eat a baguette with butter + croissant every morning. Top 3 travel regrets… hmm, off of the top of my head: 1) When I was studying in S. Korea, I never got out of Seoul to see the countrysides. 2) I haven’t gone on a road trip across the U.S. yet. 3) That millet beer that I drank in Northern Cameroon (let’s just say I got a mild case of cholera and was on the toilet for 24 hours).

      3. Oh dear. Something similar happened to me…except it involved horchata and I was in Madrid, Spain…and I had to fly back the next day. Not pretty, that’s for sure.

      Thanks for sharing, Kareen!
