The effervescence of youth reignited by crawfish and penis jokes
I didn’t think I could have that much fun on a Monday night. Seriously.
A feast of crustaceans and sausages laid before us and with beers in our hands, we devoured the lot and left quite a mess. Fingers and hands dripping in that spicy, buttery, garlicky goodness that stuck to your core so you would burp up the remnants throughout the next 24 hours and remember your delicious meal. Talking, laughing, and catching up about life, work, family, and friends. Last night, I didn’t realize how much I missed everyone. Everyone was so close but at the same time so damn far away because of prior commitments and just the everyday hustle of life.
It had been so long since all of us hung out and I relished every moment I spent laughing, talking about boy toys, and reminiscing on the good old days. The good old days were filled with ping pong, computer pranks, and constant use of my then-nickname “BatDao”. We were filled with an eagerness and a carefree nature that could only be inexplicably explained as the effervescence of youth. And now we come together, almost 4 years later, toting new friends and lovers, and it’s amazing how it seems like nothing has changed even though everything has.
We still ream each other with jokes that make the whole table scream “OHHH!!” and they still make me laugh until I snort uncontrollably. But this time, we’re a little more mature. We have our lives together a little more and for the most part, we know where we want to go. Still, it’s refreshing to know that an appropriately-timed “that’s what she said” or a good penis joke will still root us back to our childish, carefree ways. Even an energized birthday song and dance also reminds us to cherish every happy waking moment we encounter.
I hope to see them all again real soon. It’s the big group settings that I miss dearly, the kind where you have to get up and walk to the other side of the table just so you catch up with someone. I sadly didn’t get a picture of all 15 of us but here’s one with some reunited buddies.
But perhaps the next best thing is the drive home. My drive home in silence that had me smiling from ear to ear, anticipating our next crazy reunion.
Until next time, y’all!! :P

Vyv,
This post made me smile. It sounds like it was a wonderful time and that you have all grown but can still get together to laugh! And laughter is so healing.

I can’t believe how similar this is to Hot n Juicy. We will have to try it out if we are ever in the neighborhood.

I’ve never eaten crawfish. I think the place you went to would be the best!!!

Whaaaaaaat! Well c’mon over and we’ll grab some! :D Crawfish honestly is such a tease. You have to do all this work for a very small piece of meat. I’m sure you can understand the reference :( Haha.
I personally like the ginormous shrimp, clams, and sausages myself! :P

“That’s what she said” jokes are my favorite.
And are those spicy crawfish?

Most definitely! I don’t actually have a straight shot of the crawfish, just of the shrimp and then the whole table. Our spread included (several lbs EACH) of cannonball spicy shrimp, cannonball medium clams, cannonball fire-in-the-hole crawfish, a dozen sausage, corn, and potatoes. Cannonball = mix of garlic butter, lemon pepper, and Cajun spices. Needless to say, it was amazing as usual and we were FREAKING STUFFED!!
